Cellists of varying abilities will have roles to play. Past repertoire include Bach chorales, music by Brahms, Haydn, Dvorak, Schubert, Mark O’Connor, among others. The 2018 repertoire is Ravel’s Bolero and Sibelius’s Impromptu. Parts will be given out a week beforehand.
Perform solo repertoire for instruction and peer feedback. If you wish to perform in masterclass, indicate your choice of solo repertoire in your registration.
Learn the discipline to be free. Explore rhythm patterns, harmonic progressions and how to carry on a “musical conversation” with one another. Sample improv from past cello retreats: Brubeck’s Take Five and Irish reels.
There are 3 houses to accommodate rehearsal and residence, which is divided by gender. Meals are provided by Dr. Sunghye Kim, a volunteer parent who has offered to cook delicious and nutritious meals.
End each day with the outdoors: a game of soccer, canoeing on the lake, or hike 40 acres of backwoods that is adjacent to the property.
Cello retreat will conclude with a concert on Monday, September 4th at 4:00 PM @ 1862 Lake Point Drive, Winston Salem. It is open to public.
