ACTIVITIES
DAILY CELLO CLASSES
Cellists of varying abilities will have roles to play. Past repertoire include Bach chorales, music by Brahms, Haydn, Dvorak, Schubert, Mark O’Connor, among others. The 2018 repertoire is Ravel’s Bolero and Sibelius’s Impromptu. Parts will be given out a week beforehand.
Perform solo repertoire for instruction and peer feedback. If you wish to perform in masterclass, indicate your choice of solo repertoire in your registration.
Learn the discipline to be free. Explore rhythm patterns, harmonic progressions and how to carry on a “musical conversation” with one another. Sample improv from past cello retreats: Brubeck’s Take Five and Irish reels.
LIVING, RECREATION, CONCERT

Living
Two different houses accommodate resident participants. Healthy meals and snacks are provided throughout the day.

Recreation
End each day of classes with the outdoors: a game of soccer, canoing in the lake, or a hike in the 40 acres of backwoods adjacent to the property.

Concert
The retreat concludes with an onsite concert on Labor Day.
